Distance: 76 Miles
In January 2008 construction began on the new Panama City - Bay County International Airport, the first international airport built in the U.S. since 9/11.
The airport is slated to begin operations in May 2010 with 10,000 foot primary runway and a 5,000 foot crosswind runway. There will be a 105,000 sq. ft. terminal with seven gates. The total project cost is in excess of $330 million dollars. The new airport will be built on approximately 1,300 acres of a 4,000-acre site. The site has ample room for expansion.
As this will be a new international airport and new interconnecting hub in the southeast United States, several airlines are in discussions with the airport authority to provide services in addition to the two airlines that are at the current airport location in Panama City. There are direct flights to Atlanta, Memphis, Orlando, and Cincinnati.
