Headland Lifts Yard Sale Restriction for Second Weekend in October
New Policy Emphasizes Free Permit Requirement
Headland, 10/4/24 – In response to community feedback, the City of Headland has made a key update to its yard sale policy. Effective immediately, the restriction prohibiting yard sales during the second weekend of October has been removed. Residents are now free to hold yard sales on any weekend of their choosing, as long as they comply with existing guidelines.
All residents planning to host a yard sale are still required to complete a free yard sale permit application three or more days prior to the sale. This permit ensures that the city can monitor and maintain safety and traffic flow in neighborhoods.
Definition of Yard Sale Items
A yard sale is defined as an event where individuals sell pre-owned household goods such as kitchenware, clothing, furniture, toys, and collectibles. These sales do not include handmade products, wholesale items, or home-produced food products. Items sold must be personal belongings and not part of any commercial business operations.
The decision to remove the restriction comes after careful consideration of community input and the desire to offer more flexibility for residents who rely on yard sales to declutter their homes and connect with neighbors.
“We appreciate the feedback from our residents and are pleased to be able to respond with a solution that benefits the entire community,” said Ray Marler, Mayor. “We want to continue supporting these activities while ensuring they are held safely and in line with city regulations.”
